Laura Marling shares new track, “Patterns”

Laura Marling has shared a track, “Patterns”, from her new album, Patterns In Repeat, which is released on October 25 through Chrysalis/Partisan Records.

THE NEW UNCUT COMES WITH A FREE, ULTRA-COLLECTABLE JOHN LENNON CD – ORDER A COPY HERE

You can hear “Patterns” below:

The record – her eighth solo album – was recorded almost entirely at Marling’s home studio and co-produced by Dom Monks, with additional assistance from Rob Moose.

“Over the course of nine months, I had happily prepared myself for the fact that my life as a songwriter would be put on hold while I adjusted to life as a new parent,” says Marling.

“How delighted then was I to discover that for the first few months of a baby’s life, you can bounce them in a bouncer and play guitar all day. For the first time in my life, I was able to gaze into another human’s eyes as I wrote. Of course, new parents feel like they discovered that feeling – one of the very finest that life has to offer, of looking into the eyes of your child and feeling the enormity of the picture as a whole, the enormity of a precarious life, celestial, fragile and extraordinary, taking its place among the comparatively banal constellation of a family. This banal constellation seems to have dominated the writing of Patterns in Repeat – the drama of the domestic sphere, the frail threads that bind a family together, the good intentions we hold onto for our progeny and the many and various ways they get lost in time. So much complexity in the banal, the caged, the everyday.

“Being as I am, 34 years old, now 15 years and 8 albums into a life in song, I am unable to escape the fact that each record has served as a time-stamped chapter of my life (though some have appeared more a premonition). Now, here we are, following a youth spent desperately trying to understand what it is to be a woman, I am at the brow of the hill, with an entirely new and enormous perspective surrounding me.”

The tracklisting is:

Child of Mine

Patterns

Your Girl

No One’s Gonna Love You Like I Can

The Shadows

Interlude

Caroline

Looking Back

Lullaby

Patterns in Repeat

Patterns In Repeat is available to pre-order here.

Meanwhile, Marling also takes up residencies in October and November:

Hackney Church, London – October 29, 30, November 1 and 2

Bowery Ballroom, New York – November 11 and 12

Balenciaga Is Now Selling A €3,500 Couture Festival Wristband

You know those dirty, ragged wristbands we all bring home after trekking miles through heat, dirt, and mud after a multi-day camping festival? Every porta potty visit, every wave of dust kicked up by shufflers, every spilled drop of rain or Beatbox is forever etched on those beloved wristbands. They serve as a grimy memento of the blood, sweat, and tears we ravers put into every festival experience. Well apparently these wristbands have become so sought after, that Balenciaga is now selling a mock “Raver Bracelet” for €3,500.

That’s right, our well-used and well-loved festival wristbands are now a “couture” accessory designers are capitalizing on. Balenciaga’s Raver Bracelet debuted during their Autumn/Winter 2024-25 haute couture collection showcase in Paris last week (July 1). Hand-embroidered and held together with a sterling silver 925 clasp, the bracelet is intentionally distressed to mimic a used festival wristband.

The Raver Bracelet is available in pink, black, and blue polyester. According to the Balenciaga’s creative director Demn, wearing “this distressed version” requires “the skills of an artist to imbue it with a worn and aged look.” The fashion house adds that the manufacturing process requires “a full day’s work for each piece.” Each piece is handmade using various artisanal techniques, making it “unique and intricate,” which is why interested buyers must make a private appointment to purchase.

The new accessory is currently available by appointment only for €3,500, with a second style option featuring metallic thread priced at €4,500. Your average festival wristband ranges anywhere from €300-€3,000 these days, depending on the event and the desired experience tier (GA, GA+, VIP, etc.). Balenciaga’s mock wristband tops any festival entry fee currently available. You could attend EDC Las Vegas as a VIP guest three times before hitting Balenciaga’s price point.

If you want the real thing (and to save a bit of money), you have to put in the work like the rest of us ravers. Otherwise, here’s the link to book your appointment for the Balenciaga knockoff!

Emergency Group :: Mind Screen

Emergency Group don’t have anything to prove at this point, at least not around these parts. Over a pair of albums (and an all-timer Lagniappe Session), they have shown themselves one of the most lethal improvisational rock units around. But while everyone would have welcomed another helping of their headlong neo-kraut assault, their new album goes in a different direction entirely. In Mind Screen, Emergency Group have made a smoldering late-night record, all quiet interplay and expansive spaces.
