If you’ve spent any amount of time in an Australian pub, you’re likely familiar with the cultural icons that are The Angels. Their journey began in 1974 when the Adelaide group, The Moonshine Jug and String Band, electrified their sound as The Keystone Angels at the Modbury Hotel.

Their journey took them to iconic venues like Sunbury and saw them supporting legends such as Chuck Berry, ACDC and Ike & Tina Turner. Encouraged by Bon Scott and Malcolm Young, The Angels signed with Albert’s label before dropping “Keystone” from their name, and releasing their debut single (and Australian rock anthem), ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again‘.

In 1978, The Angels achieved their breakthrough, touring with Meat Loaf and David Bowie, scoring their first Top 40 hit with ‘Take A Long Line‘, and releasing the quadruple platinum album ‘Face To Face’. Jimmy Barnes has hailed The Angels as “a band that changed Australian music forever,” a sentiment echoed by fans and critics alike.

“Our relationship with the audience means everything to the band,” Rick Brewster says. “In fact, it’s the reason we’re still going.”

In 2023, The Angels welcomed a new era with Nick Norton stepping out from behind the drums to become their lead singer. He is joined by John and Rick Brewster, along with John’s sons Sam and Tom.

As they celebrate their 50th anniversary and the release of their newly released album ‘Ninety Nine‘, The Angels have embarked on a national tour across Australia. From St Kilda to Thornbury, VIC, they’ve already captivated audiences with their timeless rock anthems and infectious energy. Over the coming month, they will continue their journey across the country, sharing stages with the legendary Aotearoa new wave band Mi-Sex (who recently celebrated 45 years since the release of their iconic album ‘Graffiti Crimes‘). They will also be showcasing the talents of Meanjin band DIAL, who have just released their self-titled debut album.

Rick Brewster summed it up best: “The Angels is bigger than any one of us. It’s a band that’s all about the songs and the power of the guitars.” Their shows are a celebration of everyone who’s been part of their journey and all the fans who’ve embraced their music over the decades.

As The Angels continue to rock in 2024, their motto “There is No Exit” rings true, marking their enduring legacy in Australian rock history.

Eminem has finally revealed the release date for his highly anticipated 12th studio album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’.

Today (July 2), the rapper – who also goes by the alias Slim Shady – shared the release date via a new trailer. In the trailer, we see a woman giving birth to a baby, who soon begins displaying demonic attributes. The album’s release date is then confirmed for next Friday (July 12).

Ahead of the new album, today (July 2) Eminem will release the record’s second single, ‘Tobey’, featuring Big Sean and BabyTron. A music video will arrive on Friday (July 5). ‘Tobey’ is Eminem’s first collaboration with BabyTron and his fourth with Big Sean – they’ve worked together on the tracks ‘No Favors’, ‘Friday Night Cypher’ and ‘Detroit Vs. Everybody’ in the past.

It follows on from ‘Houdini’, which was released on May 31 and interpolates a number of Eminem’s previous hits as well as ‘Abracadabra’ by the Steve Miller Band. The song garnered controversy as it references the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, as well as the transgender community, cancel culture, and RuPaul.

Eminem’s last studio album, ‘Music to Be Murdered By’, was released in January 2020. NME gave it a three-star review, saying: “He’s ready to pass on hard-earned wisdom before running his mouth like he hasn’t learned his own lessons. And he offers casual fans a hook or two before embarking on another lyrical work-out. It would actually be quite disappointing to see Eminem grow up entirely, and he seems to be having fun as he navigates his own idiosyncratic space.”
