Watch: The Thanks by Roman Around

Roman Around

The Thanks

The Thanks is the latest single from Roman Around, the musical vehicle for Roman Rivera, and it swims in loose guitars, slow and off kilter bass and a spectral vocal that gives the song a distinctive, sun dazed aesthetic. It follows on from the hazy track DNT, as featured on BlackPlastic.co.uk back in 2022.

There are traces of Animal Collective, Phoenix, and Kindness on display on The Thanks, all wound up in a tight little art-pop package. The song conveys a growing desperation in Roman’s heavy vocal performance, a sense of lethargy coming through as the performance depicts the complexities that exist within unconditional love.

In addition to the song’s general aesthetic, which shimmers with a distinctive sense of emotive style, the song playfully experiments with rhythm, with distinctive stops, starts, and fills. The result is surprising, particularly given the song’s short run-time, yet it never risks derailing the overall performance. The result is playful, yet emotive.

Growing up as a multi-racial artist in Fresno, California, where they currently serve as a music educator, Roman Rivera has looked to create a safe space for themselves, and others, in the LGBTQ+ and POC music, and general, communities. Bringing together complex rhythms and hazy textures, Rivera takes inspiration from shoegaze, drone, and chillwave outfits like the Cocteau Twins, DIIV, and Toro Y Moi.

Abbi Press Unveils Emotionally Charged EP ‘STUCK’

Intriguing singer, songwriter, and producer Abbi Press has unveiled her latest EP, STUCK, a compelling collection of tracks that blend intricate production with profound emotional depth. Renowned for her genre-defying music, Abbi Press weaves a vibrant tapestry of sound, immersing listeners in a captivating, dream-like experience with her ethereal voice and dynamic rhythms.

The 5-track EP STUCK showcases Abbi Press’s unique ability to blend elements of Alt-pop, Ethereal Techno, Indie-Pop, and Drum and Bass. This fusion results in a captivating body of work that demands repeated listening. The title track, STUCK, is a chilly, introspective piece that delves into the emotional labyrinth of deteriorating relationships. Through introspective lyrics and emotive delivery, Abbi Press captures the essence of loss, acceptance, and the quest for healing, all set against infectious electronic beats.

Musically, STUCK features a mix of chilled, atmospheric synths and dynamic beats, juxtaposing melancholy with energy. This contrast underscores the emotional complexity of the narrative, capturing the frustration and confusion of shifting relationships.

Written in 2018, the song evolved through various iterations, reflecting her growth as an artist and individual. “This EP marks a segment of time that encompasses a complete chapter if there ever was one, and every chapter is worth telling,” she shares.

The EP’s evolution mirrors Abbi’s personal journey, from feeling creatively stuck to embracing new versions of herself. “As frustrating as this chapter of my life felt, it has allowed me to step into a new version of myself that is much happier and fulfilled,” Abbi reflects.

What is Entertaiment?

Silent Disco Events Seattle - Seattle's Premier Silent Disco Headset Rental Company

Entertaiment is an activity that can keep one’s attention and interest, like a book, movie, or game. It can also be something more personal, like a smile or laugh. The word comes from the Medieval Latin intertenere, which combines the prefix “inside” and the suffix “hold.” The Indo-European root is ten, meaning to stretch or extend. In its more familiar forms, entertainment has the power to bring joy and stimulate learning, but it can also have negative effects if not well regulated. [1]

Watch Billie Eilish prank call Margot Robbie, Tyler, the Creator and Dakota Johnson

Billie Eilish has pranked called a number of her fellow celebrity friends, including the likes of Margot Robbie and Tyler, The Creator – see how the calls played out below.

For a video segment with ELLE Magazine, the singer-songwriter was tasked with calling several famous friends in her mobile phone’s contact list to play out a series of awkward and funny scenarios.

For the first call, Eilish was told to call someone to ask if they could shoot a music video at their home at the last minute. For that, she called Barbie star Margot Robbie, who eagerly answered and first began praising the singer for her latest album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’. Later, Eilish explained that she was filming a music video the next day but that the location for the shoot fell through, and she asked if she could film at Robbie’s house instead.

Robbie replied, saying that while she would normally say yes, she couldn’t this time around as she was packing up her house, presumably for a move.

Later, she called Tyler, The Creator, asking if she could rush over to his house for a quick shower and a change of clothes after crapping in her pants while on a date. After laughing at Eilish and joking about her accident, Tyler obliged before Eilish revealed that it was all a prank.

Finally, she called actress Dakota Johnson, claiming that she had been cast in a movie as a diaper-wearing baby. Johnson sounded puzzled by the casting, and asked if Eilish needed advice on whether to take the role. Eilish said she’d already accepted, and wanted help finding a dialect coach. Eilish soon broke, and Johnson expressed her relief.

In a four-star review of Eilish’s latest album for NME, Thomas Smith wrote: “‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ remains distinctly unique, a portrait of a singular talent entering young adulthood, exploring her queerness and experiencing the emotional thrill and (sometimes) catastrophe of chasing passion or falling in love. In trying to write an album for herself, she’s made one that will resonate harder than anything she’s done before.”

Meanwhile, Eilish recently became the third artist to reach 100million monthly Spotify listeners, and the youngest yet to reach the milestone. The singer finished behind Taylor Swift – who has 102million monthly Spotify listeners – and The Weeknd – who tops the list with 107million monthly listeners on the music streaming platform.

Elsewhere, Eilish’s ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ world tour is scheduled to begin this autumn. The UK and Ireland leg will take place in July 2025, and includes six nights at The O2 in London. Find any remaining tickets here (UK/Ireland) and here (North America).

Trailer For Bob Dylan Biopic 'A Complete Unknown' Starring Timothée Chalamet Drops

The first trailer for the forthcoming biopic A Complete Unknown, centred on the life of Bob Dylan, is finally here. In the highly anticipated clip, leading man Timothée Chalamet sings the 1963 protest song A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.

Directed by James Mangold—who directed the best biopic this writer has ever seen (the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line)—the film is set in the early 1960s.

Chalamet portrays a 19-year-old Bob Dylan experiencing a meteoric rise from folk singer to chart-topping sensation, travelling from his early New York City days to his explosive performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

Alongside Chalamet is BAFTA nominee Edward Norton (American History X, Primal Fear), Elle Fanning (The Great, Maleficent), Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them), Norbert Leo Butz (Bloodline, Justified: City Primeval), and Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly, Narcos: Mexico).

A Complete Unknown is heading to cinemas “soon.” A Variety report stated that the film will hit American theatres in December.

Monica Barbaro will portray Joan Baez, while Elle Fanning reportedly plays Sylvie Russo – a fictional version of Dylan’s then-girlfriend Suze Rotolo. Norton plays the folk singer Pete Seeger, Holbrook appears as Johnny Cash, Scoot McNairy is Woody Guthrie, and Dan Fogler is Albert Grossman.

You can watch the trailer below.

According to the BBC, Mangold received Bob Dylan’s blessing to make the film, and the music legend is on board as executive producer.

Mangold said he was intrigued by “This idea of a talent like Bob, so vexing, so provocative, so filled with fiction and fact.

“This idea of this incredible, artistic character landing in New York with $12 in his pocket – trying to thread the needle of how one goes from there to there is so interesting to me.”

In October 2021, Dylan quietly announced a tour that would run from November 2021 through 2024.

Entitled Rough And Rowdy Ways (after his 2020 album of the same name), the tour is being billed as a world tour. While no word has been officially given on Australian dates at this time, the billing and sheer length of the tour have fans extremely excited about the prospect of some shows down under.
