niina announces her debut album honestly, does this smell off to you? with lead single ‘summer high’

This week sees one of electronic music’s most versatile emerging talents niina announce her feel-good and ambitious debut album honestly, does this smell off to you?, due for release on August 8 via ADA. To celebrate the announcement, niina has shared the body-moving lead single ‘summer high’.

‘summer high’ is a homage to bliss-filled summer moments of abandoning your problems on the dancefloor and an anthemic celebration of women as niina explains: “I just want to really celebrate women – there’s so much incredibleness to being a woman and any opportunity I can take to empower myself or others is a good thing. I made the song last year and I actually envisaged the video for it really early on. It’s about getting fire in your tummy and just letting loose, going out and feeling limitless. It’s a moment of not questioning the world and blocking out anyone who tries to tell you otherwise.”

Trusting the process is integral to niina’s debut album, whether it’s lighthearted lyrical observations or tackling dark emotions, niina’s songwriting tells the story of a twenty-something who’s winging it through life and rebelling against the comedown of adulthood. Her unfiltered creativity and ambition is what sets her apart from her peers, combining the sentiment of her previous two EPs while also carving out new musical territory that sees her beginnings in alt-pop now evolve into dance music proper. An empowering, confessional album, it was written, recorded and produced entirely by niina from her bedroom and celebrates self-acceptance, creating a space for people to sing, dance, cry and not take life too seriously.

Sharon West – Fake: A Euro Disco House Anthem of Pulsating Vindication

Sharon West’s latest single, Fake, created in collaboration with Nick Jay and Jean Luc is an electrifying euro disco house installation of euphoria underpinned by a scathingly sharp persecution of pretenders. The track’s synthesis of retro disco grooves, solid beats, and Sharon’s powerhouse vocals creates a hedonically rhythmic hit that delivers catharsis with infectiously kinetic rhythms that any dancefloor would want to devour. Sharon West’s journey from live band performances to becoming a sought-after House, Dance, and EDM vocalist and songwriter is reflected in this potent release. Her evolution in the music scene has been marked by her debut album, Revelation, and a series of celebrated collaborations. Now that Fake has permeated the airwaves, there will be no stopping West in her mission to revolutionise the airwaves. It’s so much more than a nostalgic nod to the forebearers of house; it’s a deeply visceral experience where familiar rhythmic warmth meets the searing burn of truth. Tiësto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Gabry Ponte join forces on a rework of Eminem’s ‘Mockingbird’

Tiësto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and Gabry Ponte teamed up to take on a bold project–putting an electronic spin on Eminem’s iconic hit “Mockingbird” from 2005. While remaking an Eminem track is never something to take lightly, the artists leveraged their collective 30+ years in production to craft a version that pays homage to the original and carves out its unique identity. The massive remix has been a highly anticipated release since Tiësto dropped it in his main stage set at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival back in March.

Opening with a chirpy xylophone solo, “Mockingbird” ups the ante with heart-pounding four-on-the-floor bass combined with hardstyle-influenced synths that make for an absolute dance floor heater. The distinct and nostalgic sound has seen a resurgence recently, with “Mockingbird” serving as a perfect follow-up to Tiësto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Dido, and W&W’s “Thank You (Not So Bad)” from back in December.
