MF DOOM’s widow has shared a message on what would have been his 53rd birthday, thanking him for “bringing so much joy and laughter to our lives”.

The beloved underground rapper — whose real name was Daniel Dumile — died on October 31, 2020, aged 49. In July last year, his widow Jasmine Dumile confirmed that he passed away from a condition known as angioedema, a rare and severe reaction to his blood pressure medication.

Now, Jasmine has shared a heartfelt tribute to him on social media to give thanks on his “bornday”.

“Time has not gotten easier, we think of you and miss you tremendously every single day,” she wrote. “Thank you for your courage, wisdom, overstanding, patience, and strength, lyrical genius, and crazy sense of humor.”

“The children and myself will continue to make things correct,” she continued. “The best that we can. Solutions only. Continuing your legacy we will always remember and never forget.”

Last year, Jasmine sued the rapper’s former A&R. Alongside Gas Drawls, who control DOOM’s intellectual property, she sued Eothen “Egon” Alapatt for copyright infringement, fraud, intentional misrepresentation and unjust enrichment.

She claimed in the suit that Alapatt stole 31 of the rapper’s personal notebooks and was refusing to return them.

The issues with the rapper’s property began back in 2010 when MF DOOM travelled to the UK and was not able to re-enter the US due to immigration issues (he was born in Hounslow). According to the lawsuit, the 31 notebooks were left behind at his studio in Los Angeles and Alapatt “took unlawful possession” of the books about six years later.

In July last year, Leeds Hospital apologised to the rapper’s family after being questioned about the quality of his care prior to his death.

DOOM’s wife claimed that it was negligence by the staff at the Leeds hospital that led to his eventual passing, and alleged that those working at St James’ Hospital at the time failed to check on her husband frequently. She also claimed that the medical staff were two hours late when it came to administering medication for him.

In the time since his death, various figures from across the music industry have come together to keep the rapper’s legacy alive. This includes a posthumous feature on ‘Cheat Codes’ – an album made by Danger Mouse and Black Thought – and plans for a biography, called The Chronicles of DOOM: Unraveling Rap’s Masked Iconoclast, written by veteran music journalist S. H. Fernando Jr.

Thom Yorke also shared a remix of MF DOOM‘s ‘Gazzillion Ear’ in tribute to the late musician, and a street block in Long Beach, New York was officially renamed in his memory.

Marvel has also paid tribute to him in their latest DOOM comic book, the first in the series since 2000.

Pohoda Festival in Slovakia has been cancelled midway through after one of its tent stages collapsed, injuring 29 attendees.

Nearly 30,000 were in attendance at the festival, which is held near Trenčín airport in the north of the country.

According to the Slovak Spectator, strong winds and a severe storm caused one of the festival’s large tents, Aréna Slovenskej sporiteľne, to collapse, with dozens of festival-goers inside. See footage of the accident below.

The festival’s chief physician Jaroslav Vidan confirmed that 29 people had been injured by the accident late on Friday night (July 12). “Twenty-eight injuries were minor, mostly lacerations, and one injury was of moderate severity, involving a hip fracture,” he said, before adding that all those injured had been taken to hospital.

The festival confirmed that it had been cancelled at around midnight on Friday, writing on social media: “Based on the available information, the inspection of all structures could not be completed sooner than within 24 hours, which makes it impossible to continue the festival programme.”

“After carefully considering the time required to inspect the safety of festival structures, we have decided that we must end Pohoda 2024,” the organisers added.

The festival was due to finish on Saturday, including sets by artists including Nia Archives, Black Pumas, Ezra Collective, Mount Kimbie and LA Priest.

The dramatic weather had caused disruptions earlier in the day on Friday, with performances by Morcheeba and Royal Blood not taking place for safety reasons. The festival was suspended at 20:00, before the decision was made to shut it down four hours later.

Festival-goers had been warned not to stand near the tent’s poles due to the threat of lightning, but many people were thought to be seeking shelter from the storm in the tent.

The Slovakian bank Slovenská sporiteľňa, which sponsored the tent in question, paid for extra buses to take people off site, and some of the artists including Fallgrapp opted to waive their pay to help the festival financially.

Slovakian police also announced on Friday night that they had begun a criminal investigation into the collapse of the tent.

It is not the first time that such circumstances have struck Pohoda Festival: in 2009, two people were killed and dozens of others injured when a tent collapsed due to heavy winds causing a thunderstorm.

The firm Laudauer-Weihnachtscircus, who built the tent that collapsed that year, was charged with public endangerment and was forced to pay £28,000 to the festival in damages.

Fred Again.. was recently spotted performing an intimate secret set at Rising Sun Pensford, a pub located in Brixton, Somerset, with The Japanese House. Watch fan footage of the performance below.

The fast-rising producer and DJ played a live set to a small audience inside the pub in a private event yesterday (July 12) – specific details about this event, however, have not been revealed by either Fred Again.. or the pub, who only shared on Instagram Stories that it was “closed for a private event” on Friday.

However, he did share on Instagram Stories today (July 13) about his time at the pub, where he was filmed performing with The Japanese House’s Amber Bain her 2023 song ‘Sunshine Baby’ – here, its languid indie rock instrumentation was substituted by Fred Again..’s lone lush keyboards. “Amber’s voice is so magical I couldn’t stop smiling,” he wrote in an Instagram Story.

The set also comprised solo material by Fred Again.., who last sprang a surprise set onto Glastonbury 2024 festivalgoers weeks ago where he debuted new material.

The producer will be performing at the forthcoming Reading & Leeds 2024 festival this August, in a headlining slot alongside Lana Del Rey, Liam Gallagher, Catfish And The Bottlemen, Blink-182 and Gerry Cinnamon. Meanwhile, The Japanese House recently shared a country-inspired new single ‘:)’ (pronounced ‘Smiley Face’), described in a press release as an “ode to happiness”.

Last month, Fred Again.. performed his first headline stadium show in the US, during which he briefly stopped his performance to chase fans off the stage.

NME gave his Brian Eno collaborative album ‘Secret Life’ three stars, saying: “Released just a few weeks after Fred closed Coachella with a set of thunderous dance and techno alongside Four Tet and Skrillex, ‘Secret Life’ sees him handbrake turn once again into ambient haze, assisted by the man who made it all happen for him. This surprise album – despite its frequent beauty – works best as a puzzle piece rather than a standout record in its own right.”
