Country artists cover Beyoncé’s greatest hits for Apple Music
A selection of country artists including Brittney Spencer, BRELAND, Joy Oladokun have covered Beyoncé’s classics for Apple Music.

It appears as though the Houston singer’s country reign isn’t quite over just yet – following the release of ‘Cowboy Carter‘, a number of country musicians have teamed up to reinvent some of Beyoncé’s older classics.
In a series of covers for Apple Music Nashville Sessions, six Black country artists have taken on Beyoncé songs and made them their own. Tiera Kennedy, who appeared on ‘Cowboy Carter’s ‘BLACKBIIRD’ and has covered ‘1+1’ for Apple Music, said of the covers: “Beyonce has opened a door that’s going to be really hard to close.”
Meanwhile, Brittney Spencer and Tanner Adell (who also appeared with Kennedy on ‘BLACKBIIRD’ will also score covers of their own, with the two singing ‘Irreplaceable’ and ‘Drunk In Love’ respectively. New Jersey’s BRELAND will take on ‘Sandcastles’, Texas-raised Madeline Edwards will sing ‘Halo’, and Joy Oladokun will put her own spin on ‘II MOST WANTED’.
Take a listen to the compilation below:
Beyoncé released ‘Cowboy Carter’ in March, where NME prasied the record in a five-star review: “In the age of stan culture, sceptics will argue that objective criticism of Beyoncé can feel hard to come by. Those who don’t already love country may find some of ‘Cowboy Carter’s balladeering sections to be a little long, or query whether an artist of Beyoncé’s stature is invoking certain ironies when she rallies her audience to “stand for something”, given her own relative quiet on recent political affairs.
“But even if interpreted only on the grounds of artistic spectacle, it’s an undeniable thrill to see her swing so big on a project that dares her to be so intimate and vocal-focused, while making way for country’s up-and-comers too.”
The record features covers of Dolly Parton‘s ‘Jolene’, who expressed surprise at Beyoncé’s lyric change, along with the aforemention ‘Blackbird’ cover from The Beatles, whose original backing track Beyoncé used with Paul McCartney’s blessing.
Upon the release of ‘Cowboy Carter’, Beyoncé became the first Black woman to land a US Number One country album.
In other news, Tina Knowles has shared how Beyoncé dealt with childhood bullies.

Carson Peters “Long Twin Silver Line” – rolling down the tracks
Carson Peters’ fiery fiddle and vocal deliver this take on Bob Seger’s ‘Long Twin Silver Line‘ in a fine bluegrass style. It’s the second single taken from ‘Silver Bullet Bluegrass‘ a Bluegrass tribute to Bob Seger, a concept that the classic rock loving Carson Peters was keen to get involved in as he explains: “I loved the idea and jumped at the chance to be included with the great artists who were already on board.”
‘Silver Bullet Bluegrass ‘ will be out on July 12 via Sony/The Orchard. The 13-track album, which features Bo Bice, Carson Peters, Gary Nichols, Jeff Parker, Josh Shilling, Keith Garrett, Larry Cordle, Robert Hale, Shonna Tucker, Tim Shelton, Tim Stafford, Bill Taylor, and Ward Hayden, will be available on vinyl, compact disc and all streaming platforms.
Carson Peters is among a group of young traditional Bluegrass and Country musicians making a return to the Nashville music scene. Only 20 years old, Carson began his music career in 2011 when he made a guest appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno at the age of eight. In 2014, Ricky Skaggs made one of Peters’ biggest dreams a reality when he invited him to perform “Blue Moon of Kentucky” at the Grand Ole Opry.

In April, Post Malone performed a Hank Williams cover during a surprise gig in Nashville. Later that month, he played an entire set of classic country cover songs at Stagecoach Festival. The set included a guest showing from Brad Paisley, with whom he duetted on Paisley’s ‘I’m Gonna Miss Her’, as well as Vince Gill’s ‘One More Last Chance’ and Alan Jackson’s ‘Chattahoochee’.
In May, he released his first single since 2023’s ‘Austin’, titled ‘I Had Some Help’ with Morgan Wallen. Later that month, he debuted a new song ‘Never Love You Again’ while performing at the Country Music Awards. The singer most recently released a new single, ‘Pour Me A Drink’, with Blake Shelton.
Back in 2022, Malone told Howard Stern that he had been considering the shift in style. “To be honest, there’s nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album and putting it on fucking YouTube,” he said. In 2021, he also performed two country covers of songs by Brad Paisley and Sturgill Simpson for the We’re Texas relief fundraiser livestream.
Malone’s fifth album ‘Austin’ scored a four-star review from NME upon its release last year, with Erica Campbell writing: “The shift from trap beats and hip-hop delivery to purer pop suits Malone well, proving that slowing down can be a creative advantage, especially when you’re heading in the right direction.”

Blackstone Says Its June 3 Offer for Hipgnosis Songs Fund Is Final
Blackstone doesn’t intend to increase its latest offer to acquire Hipgnosis Songs Fund (HSF), the London-listed investment trust it first launched a takeover bid for on April 20. The private equity firm said in a regulatory filing Tuesday (June 25) that the financial terms of its June 3 offer “are final and will not be increased” unless a higher offer or possible offer materializes.
The announcement appears intended to thwart any attempts by opportunistic investors to extract a higher offer from Blackstone. Analysis of shareholder data by The Financial Times shows that hedge funds known to trade on takeover targets have acquired “well over” 25% of HSF’s shares, raising the possibility that Blackstone’s offer will fail to reach the minimum 75% approval threshold when shareholders vote on the proposal at HSF’s July 8 general meeting.
Blackstone’s latest offer of $1.31 per share values HSF’s share capital at a total of $1.584 billion. After some back-and-forth with Concord, which bid $1.25 per share on April 24 and $1.14 per share on April 14, Blackstone increased its bid to $1.30 per share on April 29 and then to the current $1.31 per share price on June 3.
Securing the acquisition would allow Blackstone to consolidate HSF’s 65,000-song catalog with two entities it currently owns: the private music assets investment fund Hipgnosis Songs Capital and Hipgnosis Song Management, the investment advisor to HSF. The collection of rights held by HSF includes songs by Neil Young, Journey, Lindsey Buckingham, Blondie and more.
A purchase by Blackstone would bring an end to the six-year-old HSF and the turbulence of recent years. Launched as a pure-play investment in the safety of classic music copyrights, HSF was hit by a stagnant share price that hurt its ability to raise cash for additional acquisitions. Financial mishaps — such as an errant royalty accrual that caused the company to cancel its dividend — and accounting issues led shareholders to vote against continuation in October and set the stage for turnover on the board of directors and a plan to attract bidders to satisfy shareholders.
