Jorma Kaukonen will return to San Francisco to celebrate The Fillmore’s 60th anniversary in December. Billed as three “very special evenings with Jorma Kaukonen & Friends,” the concerts will take place December 11-13.

The famed venue was built in 1912 and originally opened as Majestic Hall. Though it became the Fillmore Auditorium in 1954, operated by prominent entrepreneur Charles Sullivan, it grew into the venue it would became known as when Sullivan let Bill Graham use his dance hall permit to book a benefit for the San Francisco Mime Troupe in December 1965.

Kaukonen has been a key part of the venue’s history, even appearing as Graham’s first Mime Troupe benefit a few weeks before his inaugural Fillmore gig as a member of Jefferson Airplane. The guitarist also recently announced that he would retire from touring, instead focusing on residencies and select appearances. The String Cheese Incident have issued a new single, “Fête-Tama.” The drop arrives after the Colorado-bred act released another studio track, “Lightning Sky,” earlier this summer. “Fête-Tama” is described as “an instrumental, dance-floor-ready, electronic fusion of Afro-inspired percussion and heavy funk melodies, taking listeners on a 6-minute musical journey.”  The ensemble first played the cut live at Houston, TX’s House of Blues on May 30.

“‘Fête-Tama’ was inspired by some of the world music I’ve been listening to recently,” keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth said in a statement. “I knew I wanted to have a dance-oriented song in the style of some of our other electronic fiddle tunes. I wrote the melody on keys and brought it to the band, and we flushed it out together. ‘Fête’ meaning ‘party’ or ‘festival’ in French, and ‘Tama’ referencing a type of African drum. I wanted to showcase Jason [Hann]’s percussion expertise. But in the end, it became a fun dance track that gets everyone grooving.” 

SCI have been working on new music in their studio The Lab and have already debuted a handful of new tunes this year. Their Just Keep Spinning Tour picks up this weekend with a two-night run in Vail, CO’s Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.
