Billy Strings Joins Zach Bryan During Buckeye Country Superfest

Over the weekend, the Buckeye Country Superfest occurred at the Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Country star Zach Bryan served as the headliner during the two-day gathering, June 22 and 23, with supportive sets from bluegrass golden boy Billy Strings. During Bryan’s Saturday encore, the Oklahoma native brought out a special guest, Strings, to assist on his 2020 Elizabeth originator, “Revival.”

Strings arrived after a 21-song main frame delivered by Bryan, who pulled heavily from his third studio LP, American Heartbreak, and self-titled 2023 follow-up. After completing a run-through of the set’s final song, “Quittin’ Time,” the audience called the musician back to the stage, where he was eventually joined by Strings, who brought along his acoustic guitar.

With much force, the pair and Bryan’s backing band ripped through “Revival,” adding instrumentation and building sections to extend the initial composition, recorded in the studio and later shared as a live track on Live From Red Rocks. Following Saturday’s sit-in, Strings posted a compilation video commemorating the pair-up. Watch below.

Stings’ sit-in occurred after Bryan joined his concert opener, Jason Isbell, during Thursday’s June 20 show. The pair performed the Weathervanes originator “King of Oklahoma.” Read the full story here.

He continued: “When I was making this album, I realised I was at the point I wanted to be when I dreamed about making music to actually doing it. Back then, I was in a different mindframe and needed to experience life before things were going good with the music. [‘The Last One’] is about the journey, seeing time as a full circle when people want to see it as linear.”

The rapper recently released the album’s second single ‘Tipsy’ featuring Aitch. He also announced a UK and Australian tour for later this year, as well as a string of European dates to take place in 2025.

He will play in Manchester, Dublin and Glasgow in November, before a huge hometown show at OVO Wembley Arena in London on November 29. Tickets for these shows go on general sale at 10am BST this Friday (June 21) – you’ll be able to buy yours here.

Hazey Jane are ‘Worthy of Peace’

London folk duo Hazey Jane have released their heartwarming track, Worthy of Peace, inspired by a life-changing experience. Hazey Jane – Worthy of Peace

Hailing from London, Hazey Jane is known for crafting songs that delve into themes of joy, calm, and friendship amidst an ever-changing and challenging world. Their sound combines soothing acoustic guitars with traditional folk storytelling. Bobby and Laurent’s long-lasting friendship dates back to their secondary school days, when they played their first show together at the age of 14.

Hazey Jane successfully crowdfunded their debut EP, Us On A Wire, released in August 2016, followed by their first UK headline tour, selling out venues across the southeast. Their sophomore EP, Lifeboat, released in June 2018, received support from BBC Introducing London, Record of the Day, and Sofar Sounds. This success led to performances at several UK festivals, including Glastonbury, The Great Escape, and Cambridge Folk Festival.

Fast forward to June 21, 2024, when Hazey Jane unveiled their latest offering, Worthy of Peace. This sweet folk melody, written by lead singer Bobby, was inspired by his life-saving surgery, which required a five-week hospital stay followed by three months of rehabilitation at home. A prolonged hospital stay can be challenging, but re-emerging into the world makes you appreciate the smallest and seemingly insignificant things so much more. This indescribable sensation of peace forms the thematic core of the composition.

In classic folk fashion, Worthy of Peace embraces these emotions through soothing guitar fingerpicking, serene vocals, harmonious back vocals, and a majestic string section that evokes an atmosphere of grandiose calmness—truly “medicine for the soul.”

Worthy of Peace is an inspiring showcase of folk mastery and a brilliant exercise in the cathartic power of music.

This track is part of the celebration for Hazey Jane’s debut album, Swim, set for release on July 23, with a launch gig at The Lexington in London, supported by Iris & Steel and Austel. Make sure to be there if you enjoy what you hear!

Anya Nami: Unveiling the intriguing soundscapes of ‘Dirty Dream’ and beyond

Emerging from Eastern Europe, pop sensation Anya Nami is carving a unique path in the music industry with her captivating melodies and intriguing persona. With her sultry charm still buzzing from her previous hits, she’s back with Dirty Dream, a fresh track that’s already generating serious buzz after the wildfire success of Bread and a slew of other fan favorites that have flat-out mesmerized listeners everywhere.

Anya Nami burst onto the scene last year with her debut track Unsubstantial, swiftly amassing a global fanbase and gaining recognition for her infectious sound. As her songs rack up the streams, it’s clear that fans are hooked on her unique alchemy – fusing ridiculously catchy beats with lyrics that tell hard-won truths about love, loss, and everything in between.

Dirty Dream, the latest addition to her body of work, fixates on the captivating realm of attraction and personal desires, fueled by introspection and a confessed admiration for actors like Mads Mikkelsen and David Tennant. The track’s upbeat tempo and lush instrumentation—featuring piano, drums, strings, and synths—underscore Anya Nami’s exceptional vocals, drawing listeners in with each note.

Reflecting on the song’s origins, Anya Nami reveals,: “The song is based on a real story: one of my first relationships was with my friend’s father. It was one of the best things that ever happened to me.”  Raw emotion saturates every lyric, capturing the listener in a flood of emotions. This refusal to sugarcoat the truth transforms her songs into potent reflections of the human experience – little wonder her fans find solace in her art.

As the countdown begins to her debut EP, Anya Nami is conjuring up a maelstrom of creative experiments, dipping into various styles and forge-worthy alliances that amplify her richly textured sound.

Picture the euphoria and chaos of first love, the sweaty palms and treacherous lies of infatuation, and the brittle sweetness of heartbreak – that’s what Anya Nami’s Dirty Dream captures. As her EP looms on the horizon, it’s clear that this edgy, uncensored thinker is crafting a roadmap for millennial love, excess, and reconciliation, minus the airbrushing.

Her rapid ascent is garnering attention, and for good reason – this wunderkind is brimming with ideas and energy. Prepare to be wowed by an artistic unfolding that will redefine the possibilities.

APRA AMCOS Announces Recipients Of 23% Mentorship

APRA AMCOS have announced the 16 artists selected for this year’s edition of its 23% mentorship initiative, pairing female, non-binary and gender-diverse musicians with industry professionals to help guide and boost their careers.

2024 marks the sixth year of 23% – formerly known as the Women in Music Mentorship – with 84 artists being supported through the program since its launch in 2018. The name change came into effect with this year’s edition, reflecting the inclusion of other non-male genders; according to a press release, it’s based on the percentage of APRA AMCOS members who identify as something other than male, “address[ing] the disparity by assisting music creators at a crucial career point.”

This year’s mentees, and their respective mentors, are as follows:

Allegra Neve with Rachel Kelly

Aurora Liddle-Christie (SOLCHLD) with Jannah Beth

Issy Grist (GRID) with KLP

Kelly Breuer (KELLY BROUHAHA) with Kristy Gostelow

Lily Richardson (Clews) with Claire Collins

Lauren Jemma Valatiadis (Lauren Vale) with Danielle Blakey

Maia Toakley with Jade Nazareth

Natalie Luong (Nat Vazer) with Harry White

Natasha Newling (RAYHAB) with Milly Petriella

Ruby Archer with Mark Lizotte

Sofia Dimakakou (SOPHIYA) with Alex Hosking

Sheanna Parker Russon with Yve Blake

Sophie McComish (Body Type) with Nat Dunn

Tim Blunt (FVNERAL) with Julian McGruther

Victoria Pham with Rich Pike

Yoshi with Austin Benjamin

In a formal statement, APRA AMCOS’ Head of Membership, Karen Don, explained of the ethos that drives the initiative: “Embarking on a music career is brave – but it comes with a unique set of challenges and can at times feel isolating. The 23% Mentorship aims to give women, non-binary and gender-diverse music creators individualised support to help them reach their goals.”

Several artists also shared their enthusiasm for the mentorship; Aurora Liddle-Christie (aka SOLCHLD), for example, said it’s important to her “because it brings support, confidence and strategy to my upcoming projects and releases that I otherwise wouldn’t have”. She’ll be mentored by Jannah Beth of the Offbeat Collective.

Sydney (Eora) singer-songwriter Maia Toakley – who is currently working on her second EP, and will be mentored by artist manager Jade Nazareth (of OneLouder) – added to the sentiment, explaining why mentoring is important to her: “I mean we saw the completely male-dominated lineup of winners at the 2024 APRA Music Awards, which confirmed that clearly females and non-binary folks are not receiving the same opportunities as men in this industry!

“It’s also super powerful for women to be working together, which is something particularly unique about this mentorship.”
