The new four-channel standalone system introduces pressure-sensitive MPCe pads, onboard Stems rendering and built-in DMX output, aimed at mobile, club and festival DJs.

Denon DJ has announced PRIME 4 G2, a four-channel, four-deck standalone DJ system aimed at performance-driven DJs. Building on the original PRIME 4, the new unit introduces multi-zone performance pads, onboard Stems rendering and integrated lighting control, alongside redesigned hardware and a faster processor.

Multi-zone pads and processing power

The headline feature is a set of 16 MPCe pads, which Denon DJ describes as the first multi-zone pads in a standalone DJ system. Using 3D-sensing technology, each pad can combine several functions, such as Hot Cues, Stems, Rolls, FX and lighting control, within a single zone.

PRIME 4 G2 also gains full-size 8-inch jog wheels with LED displays, a navigation encoder, dual-rail faders and a 10.1-inch multi-touch display. An 8-core ARM processor and 4GB of RAM are said to provide four times the processing power of the previous generation, intended to support onboard Stems rendering and faster library navigation.

Lighting and connectivity

An onboard 3-pin DMX output, powered by SoundSwitch, allows direct control of DMX lighting rigs without external hardware, with support for Philips Hue and Nanoleaf fixtures. Lighting parameters such as colour, position, strobe and intensity can be controlled from the MPCe pads.

The unit’s OmniSource architecture allows switching between saved media on USB, SD card or an optional internal SATA drive, and software including Serato DJ Pro, Algoriddim djay and VirtualDJ (with software support described as coming soon). Built-in Wi-Fi provides onboard access to Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, Beatport, SoundCloud Go+ and TIDAL, alongside three dedicated Playlist Banks. Other connectivity includes Bluetooth deck control, wireless keyboard support and balanced XLR Main, Booth and Zone outputs.
