SPIN SETS Presents: Malóne

SPIN SETS Presents: Azzecca

Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, DJ/producer Malóne has made it a mission to lift up artists who represent his Latin American roots by bringing them into his WHYNOTUS label and event series. But the major Afro-house x tech-house force isn’t leaving himself out of the equation. With over a residency at Miami’s legendary Club Space, frequent sets at Hi Ibiza, multiple AfroHouse #1’s on Beatport and over 1,000,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Malóne’s passion and work ethic are paying off.

His new track “Rhythm Guide” – a collaboration with emerging artist Ky William – is a true testament to Malóne’s community-driven ethos.

“It’s been an amazing opportunity to be able to collaborate with Ky, who I think is one of the best up-and-coming talents in the industry. We were really able to fuse both of our styles together to make a dope track for the dance floor. Expect more collaborations like this in the future for WHYNOTUS.” -Malóne

Who is Malóne and what do you stand for?

Malóne is a fighter. Someone that has had to work for every single thing. Someone who stands up for all the up-and-coming artists that were told they weren’t original enough, but that never quit. And with hard work, dedication and perseverance was able to make a name for himself and realizes that, more importantly, that he’s just getting started.

Tell us about your sound – where does your style originate from and what have been your biggest visual, social, and sonic influences?

My sound is groovy. It’s Afro, it’s sexy, and it’s vibey. Afro/tech that’s inspired by growing up in Miami. Listening to a lot of salsa and disco/retro growing up. Anything from The Bee Gees to Hector Lavoe to Frankie Ruiz and many more Hispanic greats. Music that will always be for the dancefloors.

Was there a definitive turning point to your success?

When I started to understand who I was as an artist, the music I wanted to make and play out, and not caring what people thought about me, I became more confident in myself and with the music I was making. My hard work, networking, respect and pushing others forward has given me great return in my success as an artist.

When did you realize the magnitude of your impact within the industry/community?

I think once I was asked to become a resident at Club Space, it really hit me like, “Wow, we’re doing something special here.” Starting multiple labels and having so many artists from all over the world send me their music and trusting me to sign their music and put it out is a huge thing for me. It really means a lot that other artists see me in that light and want to share their art and confide in me to support their music.

Where do you want to go next with your music and what can your fans expect from future releases?

Honestly just depends the way I’m feeling at the moment. I have a lot of big club groovers coming out this year but just recently I went back to making more melodic Afro beats. That’s the type of music that got me going in the first place a couple years back. I love it all, andI play it all in my sets. I’ve never been about a single genre, and don’t want to be defined by one.

Where have you not performed yet that you want to perform?

There’s a couple of festivals that I’ve always dreamed of playing! EDC Las Vegas has always been a huge goal of mine. Ten years ago, I went to my first EDC and was blown away and promised myself I would play that festival one day. The other festival is Ultra Miami. That has been one of my biggest goals since I first started and can’t wait to hopefully play it one day.

In what ways have you pushed yourself beyond existing self-imposed limitations?

Leaving the label I had started and going out on my own, where I started my new label a year later called “WHYNOTUS.” It was a major challenge in my career. I’m excited to put all this music under my own imprint and be fully in control of everything but also sign music from other artists and throw really dope curated events all around the world.

What’s next for Malóne?

I’m playing EDC Las Vegas in May, and then I’ll be heading to Europe for a couple weeks where I will be playing with The Martinez Brothers at their Hi Ibiza residency. I’ll also be playing BLOND:ISH in Mykonos.

There’s a lot of new music coming down the pipeline for the rest of the year. I have at least ten more releases and collabs that will be released before the end of 2024.

I’ll be going back to Ibiza for closings, and going to continue to developWHYNOTUS and showcase activations all over the world.

What do you wish for the future of electronic music? In what ways would you like to see it evolve?

I wish for the scene to continue to grow and flourish. I feel like it’s in such an amazing state right now. It’s such a beautiful thing for artists to keep developing, and for fans to continue finding new talent that they love. I hope the music continues to evolve and get better and better. At the end of the day, it’s all and always has been about the music.

Any last words for the SPIN universe?

I appreciate you guys having me on. I hope you enjoy a piece of my live set from the first ever WHYNOTUS party at Jolene Miami. I hope to see you all around the world on the dance floors vibing and grooving to this beautiful thing we call house music. Much Love!

Bill Wyman has announced his ninth studio album, Drive My Car, set for release on August 9. The album will mark Wyman’s first LP since 2015 and promises a sonic blend of Anglo-Americana rhythm and blues that will include both covers and original songs penned by Wyman. The 10-track album will be available digitally as well as on CD and vinyl, with two additional bonus tracks available on digital and CD formats of the LP. To preview the forthcoming set, Wyman has released the title track, “Drive My Car,” with an accompanying lyric video. Watch below.

Drive My Car will be the ninth solo album from the legendary bassist and founding member of The Rolling Stones. With a career spanning over six decades, the new album aims to showcase Wyman’s unwavering musicianship and passion for creating and collaborating. Five of the 10 album tracks and two bonus tracks are self-written, with Wyman expressing, “It’s not something I do every day, but sometimes I just see a guitar in the corner of the room, pick it up to play around and then something clicks into place.” The new album was recorded at Wyman’s home studio with long-time collaborators such as guitarist Terry Taylor and drummer Paul Beavis. Wyman emphasizes the importance of good musical chemistry and collaboration, saying, “A bass player and a drummer are a team, you’re the rhythm section, the foundation of the whole thing.”

The LP includes seven covers from inspirations and longtime friends of Wyman’s as well as a new inspiration for the musician. Among these covers is Bob Dylan’s “Thunder On The Mountain,” the album opener, which pulls inspiration from Dylan’s original rendition and Wanda Jackson’s cover. The album covers also features Taj Mahal’s “Light Rain” and a country tribute to John Prine’s “Ain’t Hurtin’ Nobody.” In addition to covering close friends, Wyman has also included two covers of songs by Dutch guitarist Hans Theesink, who Wyman mentioned via a press release, “I find his stuff really inspiring; he brings something new to the blues.”

jxdn unpacks the songs that inspired his second album, WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS

jxdn (aka Jaden Hossler) wasn’t old enough to witness pop punk bleed into the mainstream throughout the 2000s, but the musician evokes the same heart-on-sleeve lyricism that defined that era — and made it unforgettable for so many. That approach has led to a series of staggering achievements — reaching gold status, garnering countless streams, and collaborating with his heroes, to name a few — but at the end of the day, jxdn has always used music as an escape. Now, he’s ready to make a deeper mark with his second album, WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS, which arrives this Friday (June 28) on Travis Barker’s DTA Records. From having his eyes opened by the Strokes’ Is This It to finding solace in the wounded heaviness of Deftones, jxdn falls back on all of the music that shaped him while inspiring those around him to “keep holding on to tomorrow.”

Ahead of its release, jxdn took us through the alternative influences that defined his sophomore album.

Deftones – “Sextape”

Listening to this song was one of my only moments of release during a dark time in my life.

The Strokes – “Is This It”

This song and album opened my eyes to what seems to be a clear path for me. I’m grateful to the Strokes for their music.

EKKSTACY – “i just want to hide my face”

One of the first songs I heard from EKKSTACY and made me really fall in love with indie rock as a whole. That eventually turned into a common theme throughout the album.

The Verve – “The Drugs Don’t Work”

I was in a session with some lovely people, and they showed me this song. The phrase alone inspired me, but then I was super moved by the whole concept of the song. This helped inspire my track “Drugs.”

KennyHoopla – “smoke break” (feat. Travis Barker)

This song and the entire Survivor’s Guilt mixtape represent a specific time period in my life that I reflect on a lot in this project.

Deftones – “Cherry Waves”

This track inspired a constant theme of an “out-of-body experience” throughout my upcoming project.

blink-182 – “Anthem Part Two”

blink as a whole inspired many tracks on this album. This just happens to be one of my favorites.

The Killers – “Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll”

This is my favorite song on the album Hot Fuss. I love the Killers so much. Something about their music makes my body feel. I wanted to add whatever that was to this album.

Dag Nasty – “Can I Say”

A direct inspiration for my track “It Must Suck To Know You.” Travis showed me this song on a random studio day. I was convinced.

Johnny Cash – “Hurt”

One of the greatest covers of all time. A big inspiration for all my acoustic tracks. There is power in the simple.

Robbarti shines once again with dreamy new single ‘Living With The Dinosaurs’

Following the success of his debut single Moving Away, which garnered over 100,000 streams on platforms like Spotify and received our praises with an exclusive interview , Robbarti is back with his second single, Living With The Dinosaurs. The new track is now available on all major streaming services.

I’m looking at a photograph

And you’re in this photograph with him

And that shouldn’t bother me

So why does it bother me?

I’m living with the dinosaurs

And you’re in a spaceship I can’t see

Living up among the stars

You’re in a place where I can’t breathe…

Robbarti’s effortless blending of velvety pop sensibilities and raw guitar attitude is on full display in Living With The Dinosaurs.

The laid-back rhythm of the early going lulls you into a false sense of security, only to sneak up on you with a shimmering pop break that’s got staying power. With a backdrop of crumbling relationships and faces lined with age, the lyrics voice the silenced thoughts of anyone who’s sensed the numbness of drifting apart.

As a triples threat from Glasgow, Scotland, Robbarti’s dynamic blend of singing, songwriting, and instrumental mastery is capturing attention across the music scene.

Moving Away rocketed to impressive streaming heights, and the music industry took notice – a definite indication this up-and-coming artist is here to stay. Living With The Dinosaurs continues to build on Robbarti’s reputation for crafting relatable and emotionally resonant music.

Put on your headphones and let this song be your time machine. You’re about to enter a period of nostalgic rebirth, where the adversities you’ve faced are summoned to pay tribute to the unyielding spirit that shapes your every move. Yet, despite its nod to the past, the music stays irresistibly fresh and relatable.

After trading in his mic for diaper duty, Robbarti emerged from a decade-long break, refurbished and refocused, with a sound that’s wiser and more weathered.

A mature sensibility now permeates his work, supplanting the caustic energy of his early days with songs that capture the ache of love, the sting of loss, and the perpetual stumbling towards self-awareness. With Robbarti’s latest release, the curtain pulls back to reveal a songwriter of rare gift – one who pens melodies that soothe and stories that stir.
