Disco Biscuits have added a pair of late-night shows to their fall tour. The Philadelphia-bred act will appear at Atlantic City, NJ’s The Tropicana Showroom on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3. The gigs will kick off after Phish play nearby at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. The Disco Biscuits have a rich history of Atlantic City performances, dating back to 1997. Of note, they played a famed show at the Grand Caymon Ballroom on October 25, 2002, where they chose their song selections based on fans spilling roulette wheels on the side of the stage. They also held a two-night “drum off” competition in 2005 where they selected Allen Aucoin as their new drummer.

The quartet are currently in the middle of a Southern swing. Last night at Asheville, NC’s Third Room, they offered a cover of Raf Rundell’s “More You Know” for the first time as the Disco Biscuits, after performing the track in their electronic Tractorbeam configuration on July 6. They also sampled Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” a tribute to the late singer during “Morph Dusseldorf.” Likewise, a night earlier at Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse, they, appropriately, sampled a bit of Ray Charles’ “Georgia on My Mind” during “M.E.M.P.H.I.S.”

Disco Biscuits will return to the Third Room tonight.

Grace Potter will make her Grand Ole Opry debut on Tuesday, September 15. Potter will perform songs from her new album, Trespasser, which was released on August 21 via Thirty Tigers. Potter is one of several musicians who will play the Opry for the first time in the coming weeks, including Nicole Atkins (9/12), Little Feat (9/8) and Stella Lefty (9/2).  

Potter spent the past few days on the road as an opening act for Zac Brown Band. On Thursday at Queens, NY’s Forest Hills Stadium, Potter emerged during the group’s set for a cover of Bob Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released,” which was played as a tribute to Dolly Parton. Brown also honored Parton by performing “Butterly,” a song they recorded together and released last year on the Love & Fear album. (Zac Brown Band dusted off the latter number for the first time this summer after learning about Parton’s passing.)

Then, Friday night at Philadelphia’s TD Pavilion at Highmark Mann Center for the Performing Arts, Potter emerged once again during Zac Brown Band’s opening set for her own “The Lion The Beast The Beat,” a tune she released with the Nocturnals in 2012, marking the first time the country-crossover band has played the number during their show. In addition, Philadelphia-bred musician Amos Lee, who has supported Zac Brown Band on the road before, made a surprise appearance on his own “Supply and Demand,” “I Shall Be Released” and Paul Overstreet’s “Forever and Ever, Amen.”
