Fred again.. has another album on the way.

Moments ago, the Grammy-winning producer and DJ took to social media to share a simple message. “I think I jus finished an album,” reads Fred’s post.

The prized British electronic artist and instrumentalist hasn’t shared any other details on the project just yet. But fans will no doubt be clamoring for more info on the forthcoming album, set to follow his heralded sample-driven LP Actual Life 3, which grabbed a 2024 Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album in February.

Spanning three markedly unique flagship projects thus far, including his Actual Life albums, the downtempo Secret Life LP with Brian Eno, and the rave-oriented productions found on his latest USB compilation, Fred’s rise has been absolutely meteoric. 

Already widely regarded as one of the most prolific songwriters and producers in the music industry for his work with chart-toppers like Charli XCX, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, and Headie One, to name a few, Fred Gibson launched his acclaimed solo project in 2019.

Soon, he’d boom in popularity with the release of his debut album, Actual Life, in 2021, the first in a groundbreaking now-three-part series centered around emotional vocal samples captured from “actual life,” be it hanging out with friends, life on the road, or off-the-cuff recording sessions.

Along with Actual Life selects like “Kyle (i found you)” and “Marea (we’ve lost dancing),” tunes from Actual Life 2 and Actual Life 3, such as “Billie (loving arms),” “Danielle (smile on my face),” and “Delilah (pull me out of this),” have become synonymous with dance music’s recent crash into the mainstream.

Meanwhile, the Grammy-winning “Rumble” with Skrillex and Flowdan, “Turn On The Lights again..” with Swedish House Mafia, and “Jungle” have become international rave anthems.

In just the last 18 months, Fred has graced some of the biggest stages on Earth, from his iconic B3B with buddies Skrillex and Four Tet at Madison Square Garden to his debut stadium headline at the LA Coliseum last month.

The Kid LAROI & Barkaa Lead National Indigenous Music Awards Nominations

The finalists announcement for this year’s National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) is here, with The Kid LAROI and Barkaa leading with the most nominations. This year’s awards will be held at the Darwin Amphitheatre, Larrakia Country, on Saturday, 10 August.

The Kid LAROI has been nominated for Album of the Year for his 2023 album, The First Time, and his single BLEED is up for the Song of the Year and Film Clip of the Year categories. Meanwhile, Barkaa has also received nominations in three categories: Artist of the Year, and her song We Up will compete with The Kid LAROI in the Song of the Year and Film Clip of the Year categories.

Artists up for two categories include Budjerah (Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for Video Game), Electric Fields (Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for One Milkali (One Blood), and 3% for Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for OUR PEOPLE, which samples The Presets.

In the New Talent of the Year category, some of our finest up-and-coming First Nations artists have received some love, and the nominees are Jada Weazel. Andrew Gurruwiwi Band, South Summit, James Range Band, and Becca Hatch.

In a statement, Barkaa said of her three nominations, “So honoured to be nominated again this year for three NIMAS! The 2024 NIMAs also mark the 20th anniversary of the awards. The event will be celebrated with a special one-off performance starring Jessica Mauboy, 3%, Dan Sultan, Miss Kaninna, Emily Wurramara, Birdz and Fred Leone, Arrkula Yinbayarra (Together We Sing) feat. Dr Shellie Morris AO, and Eleanor Dixon Trio.

Watch: The Rolling Stones Dust Off “Far Away Eyes” in Santa Clara

Last night, July 17, The Rolling Stones blew through Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. with the penultimate program in its Hackney Diamonds world tour. For this second-to-last date in the sprawling, memorable series that bridged the band’s countless iconic eras in a global celebration of its legacy, the Stones honored the occasion with a tour debut performance of the classic “Far Away Eyes.”

“Far Away Eyes,” the twangy, downhearted standout from 1978’s Some Girls, was selected as the winner in the band’s nightly fan vote contest for addition to the setlist, beating out “Dead Flowers,” “Let It Bleed” and “Sweet Virginia.” Wednesday’s staging marked the song’s first live performance by the Stones since October 2021, and only its fourth staging since 2006. On the rarity of the moment, the magnetic Mick Jagger riffed, “Oh god, how does that go?” before launching the leading the track on the acoustic guitar. To support the tone-shift, Ronnie Wood conjured the song’s Bible-thumping, dust bowl atmosphere with a pedal steel, bringing more depth to the song’s setting-appropriate allusions to Bakersfield and Los Angeles.

The Stones’ long-awaited dust-off fit perfectly into its finely honed, hit-studded setlist, which opened with its traditional intro-sequence of “Start Me up,” “Get Off of My Cloud,” “Tumbling Dice” and “Angry.” After “Far Away Eyes,” the band launched its second 2024 treatment of Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” then reached a fiery, high-voltage peak with the live debut of the Hackney Diamonds offering “Bite My Head Off.”

The show proceeded according to plan from there, complete with the nightly Keith Richards-led midsection of “You Got the Silver,” “Little T&A” and “Before They Make Me Run,” plus more iconic fan-favorites through the close like “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Midnight Rambler,” “Gimme Shelter” and the closer “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” After the outro, the band sent its adoring fans off into the night with the anthemic encore of “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”

Guster’s Ryan Miller Wrote Music & Lyrics for Upcoming Musical ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’

A new musical is hitting New York City, with Guster frontman Ryan Miller behind the music and lyrics.

The Brooklyn Academy of Music revealed on Thursday (July 18) the full creative team behind the Lee Sunday Evans-directed musical, Safety Not Guaranteed, which is set to take the stage at the BAM Harvey Theater from Sept. 17 through Oct. 20. The story reimagines Derek Connolly’s indie film of the same name and features new songs by Miller as it follows Darius, a low-level journalist who is assigned to report on a classified ad offering the opportunity to go back in time. The show was adapted for the stage by Nick Blaemire.

Nkeki Obi-Melekwe (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical) and Taylor Trensch (Dear Evan Hansen) star as Darius and Kenneth, respectively. Ashley Pérez Flanaganas, Pomme Koch, Rohan Kymal andJohn-Michael Lyles round out the cast.

“Building on our intention to contribute to the vitality of the American theater through investment in new work, we’re honored to welcome such a talented creative team and cast to BAM’s uniquely beautiful Harvey Theater,” said BAM Artistic Director, Amy Cassello, in a press statement.

Blaemire added, “I’ve been a fan of the film for years and always thought it could work as a musical, but the way it’s come together has been a series of serendipitous moments you can’t plan. Chance meetings with Ryan Miller and Peter Saraf and a lunch with Lee Sunday Evans sparked fast friendships and playful collaborations. And this wonderful cast and band have elevated the show beyond my wildest dreams. They’re all at the top of their game, and to be performing in the BAM Harvey, my favorite theater in the world, is a dream come true. I can’t wait to show New York what we’ve made.”
