Perfect timing killed my groove | How I got my feel back

Perfect timing killed my groove Perfect timing should make music better… right? But when every note lands exactly on the grid, something can disappear: tension, movement, personality — the groove. In this video, I use the TR-909, RetroKits RK-008 and Moog Subsequent 37 to explore the difference between music that is technically correct and music that actually feels alive. Same tempo, same sounds, same notes — but a completely different relationship between the parts. This isn’t about playing sloppy or rejecting quantisation. It’s about knowing what should stay solid, what can move, and how timing, accents and note length can create a real conversation between kick and bass. I’m using the Strymon BlueSky for space and the RetroKits Quickie to bring everything together, but the idea works with any drum machine, sequencer, synth or DAW. Because the grid should support your performance — not replace it.
