Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue found him collaborating with a variety of different artists over two legs of a tour that began in 1975 and extended into 1976. In 2019 Martin Scorsese directed a documentary that looked at these shows, titled Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese. The latter portion of the tour is now the subject of a massive new box set. The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1976 Live Recordings will be released on November 6.

The 39-CD collection draws on live performances that began on April 18, 1976 in Lakeland, Florida, and concluded in Salt Lake City on May 25, 1976. The set features 371 never-before-heard tracks drawn from these performances. Dylan’s band included guitarists Mick Ronson, Steven Soles, David Mansfield and T Bone Burnett, bassist Rob Stoner, violinist Scarlet Rivera and drummer Howie Wyeth.

Burnett observes, “The Rolling Thunder Revue was the first national punk rock tour. It opened a door that led to a furious explosion of new music—The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols and on and on. Dylan had done it again. He is good at walking through doors that no one else even sees, doors that others think are walls.”

In 2019 Martin Scorsese directed a documentary that looked at the tour titled Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese.

The package includes 381 tracks in total, along with a booklet featuring liner notes by Mikal Gilmore and rare photographs.

In addition, a 3-LP set of the complete May 16, 1976 Fort Worth performance also will come out the same day. The version of “Going, Going, Gone” live from that show appears below. Preorders are underway.
