UMAY Fitness Addresses the Invisible Health Crisis in Electronic Music Production

Rethinking Wellness in the Studio The electronic music production community has a well-kept secret that nobody really wants to talk about: it’s destroying our bodies. Behind every meticulously crafted drop, every perfectly quantized drum roll, and every harmonically complex pad sits a producer hunched over a desk for eight, ten, sometimes sixteen hours straight. It’s […]

Denon DJ Unveils PRIME 4 G2

Attack Mag - News - Feat Images Denon DJ Prime 4 G2

The new four-channel standalone system introduces pressure-sensitive MPCe pads, onboard Stems rendering and built-in DMX output, aimed at mobile, club and festival DJs.

Denon DJ has announced PRIME 4 G2, a four-channel, four-deck standalone DJ system aimed at performance-driven DJs. Building on the original PRIME 4, the new unit introduces multi-zone performance pads, onboard Stems rendering and integrated lighting control, alongside redesigned hardware and a faster processor.

Multi-zone pads and processing power

The headline feature is a set of 16 MPCe pads, which Denon DJ describes as the first multi-zone pads in a standalone DJ system. Using 3D-sensing technology, each pad can combine several functions, such as Hot Cues, Stems, Rolls, FX and lighting control, within a single zone.

PRIME 4 G2 also gains full-size 8-inch jog wheels with LED displays, a navigation encoder, dual-rail faders and a 10.1-inch multi-touch display. An 8-core ARM processor and 4GB of RAM are said to provide four times the processing power of the previous generation, intended to support onboard Stems rendering and faster library navigation.

Lighting and connectivity

An onboard 3-pin DMX output, powered by SoundSwitch, allows direct control of DMX lighting rigs without external hardware, with support for Philips Hue and Nanoleaf fixtures. Lighting parameters such as colour, position, strobe and intensity can be controlled from the MPCe pads.

The unit’s OmniSource architecture allows switching between saved media on USB, SD card or an optional internal SATA drive, and software including Serato DJ Pro, Algoriddim djay and VirtualDJ (with software support described as coming soon). Built-in Wi-Fi provides onboard access to Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, Beatport, SoundCloud Go+ and TIDAL, alongside three dedicated Playlist Banks. Other connectivity includes Bluetooth deck control, wireless keyboard support and balanced XLR Main, Booth and Zone outputs.

Key Features Include

  • 16 MPCe velocity and pressure-sensitive pads with 3D-sensing technology, combining Hot Cues, Stems, Rolls, FX and lighting control within a single pad
  • Four-channel, four-deck standalone operation via an 8-core ARM processor, allowing DJs to prepare, load and perform without a laptop
  • Onboard Stems rendering, with dedicated Instrumental and Acapella buttons, Stem FX and Stem Level EQ for isolating and manipulating elements live
  • Onboard 3-pin DMX output, powered by SoundSwitch, for direct lighting control without external hardware, with support for Philips Hue and Nanoleaf
  • OmniSource architecture, unifying standalone media with Serato DJ Pro, Algoriddim djay and VirtualDJ (software support coming soon)
  • Over 25 internal Main FX, plus 10 Touch FX, 4 Fader FX and 4 Sweep FX
  • Full-size 8-inch jog wheels with LED displays, redesigned dual-rail faders and a 10.1-inch HD multi-touch display
  • Built-in Wi-Fi with onboard access to Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, Beatport, SoundCloud Go+ and TIDAL
  • Bluetooth deck control for tablets and smartphones, wireless keyboard support, and balanced XLR Main, Booth and Zone outputs

PRIME 4 G2 is available now, priced at $2,599 / €2,699.99 / £2,299.99, through authorised Denon DJ dealers and select retailers.

Christer Bothen/Oren Ambarchi/Johan Berthling/Andreas Werliin :: Serpentine

The Ghosted trio haven’t changed much over the course of three albums, turning out sleek, skeletal jazz with deft regularity. With the addition of Swedish multi-instrumentalist Christer Bothen, guitarist Oren Ambarchi, bassist Johan Berthling and drummer Andreas Werliin deepen their groove while expanding their reach. Thanks to the addition of Bothen’s bluesy bass clarinet and earthy donso n’goni, the Ghosted trio comes alive but stays haunted.
