Kailaya’s New Single ‘Montenegro For The Summer’ Brings a Sonic Vacation

Multi-talented American-Ukrainian singer-songwriter Kailaya drops her new single, Montenegro For The Summer. This release showcases Kailaya’s distinctive blend of jazz-afrobeat infused guitar, powerful vocals, and an R&B flair.

Montenegro For The Summer is the perfect portrait of a sunny escape, minus the worry and plus the fun. As Kailaya’s alt-pop soundscape washes over you, it’s clear she’s driven to break down walls and foster a true sense of community with her listeners. Listeners drawn to Camila Cabello’s emotive prowess, Cleo Sol’s smooth deliveries, and KIRBY’s funky beats will find plenty to appreciate in this latest release.

You can hear the heartbeat of personal struggle in this song. After years apart, Kailaya visited her family in Montenegro, who had moved there due to the war in Ukraine. Inspiration struck when she stumbled upon a funky guitar groove that grabbed her attention. Despite the personal nature of this inspiration, Montenegro For The Summer represents a release from those struggles. Daily struggles fade into the background as we’re reminded to slow down and savor life’s quiet joys. Although the melody initially eluded her, the chorus came to her upon returning home, and the song began to take shape.

“The track is mostly electronic production,” Kailaya explains. “My producer, Aubren Elaine, brought her creative genius to the project, adding unique elements that elevate the song.”

Montenegro For The Summer, Kailaya reassures, represents a feeling of joy and lightness. Our lives aren’t one-dimensional; hardships mingle with happiness. To truly live, we must find space for both the bitter and the sweet. Sunshine in a song – that’s what this singles offers, drizzling listeners with a sense of carefree joy and optimistic vibes that’ll stick with them long after the music fades.

Getter – “Inhalant Abuse” [Shred Collective]

Silent Disco Events Seattle - Seattle's Premier Silent Disco Headset Rental Company

I was waiting for the release of “Inhalant Abuse” for a long time; Getter is one of my personal favorites. I follow Getter and watch recaps of his shows and this song was dropped a lot, for a good reason.

The thing I love about Getter is you never know what he’s going to make. His strong suit is defiantly dubstep (that’s how he made his rise to stardom, with his face melting dubstep). But with this song, it’s so out of the ordinary with sounds it’s hard for me to elaborate and identify what the sounds even are. But that’s why I love it! (And why I again, love Getter; you never know what he’s going to drop next.)

“Inhalant Abuse” keeps the simple drum and kick in the background, while bringing what sounds to me as distorted wubs to the foreground. It just shows you how talented Getter is; he brings these unordinary sounds together to make a banger.

“Inhalant Abuse” is out now via Shred Collective on Spotify and iTunes.

Watch Childish Gambino’s unsettling music video for ‘Lithonia’

Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, has unveiled the unsettling music video for ‘Lithonia’ – you can watch it below.

Last night (July 22) – after sharing private links of the video with fans via text messages over the weekend – the actor and rapper finally made the video available to the public. The music video, directed by Jack Begert, clocks in at two minutes – around a minute under the song’s official runtime.

Besides Glover, the music video stars musician and actor Alex Wolff (Hereditary, Pig), Suzanna Son (The Idol, Fear Street: Prom Queen), Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson, musician Lynette Williams and Passion Pit and The Flaming Lips’ Ray Suen.

The video starts with Glover and his band performing intimate group, before it quickly grows more unsettling and takes a dark turn. Watch the music video for ‘Lithonia’ below.

‘Lithonia’ marked the first single from Glover’s final album under the Childish Gambino moniker, ‘Bando Stone and The New World’. The album – released last weekend – also serves as the official soundtrack for a new movie of the same name. Donald Glover revealed the trailer for the film recently, though the film has yet to receive a release date.

Kyann-Syan Williams wrote of ‘Bando Stone and The New World’ in a four-star review for NME: “Glover has made a record as otherworldly as his other outings. Yet, ‘Bando Stone and The New World’ stumbles slightly – where its sonic variety is exciting, it lacks a clear sense of cohesion or theme compared to his previous work – making it a bittersweet farewell to the legend of Childish Gambino.”

Last week, ahead of the album’s release, Glover explained why he was retiring Childish Gambino, chalking it up to portraying the rapper not being “fulfilling” anymore, and wanted to dedicate more time to his personal life and other avenues after the death of his father and the birth of his children.
