Yesterday (July 23), XG dropped the performance video for ‘Undefeated’, a single they released in April in collaboration with video game Valorant. The song was commissioned for the Valorant Champions Tour Pacific, and was recently performed live for the first time at the VCT Pacific Opening Ceremony on July 22.

The ‘Undefeated’ performance video showcases the song’s long-awaited choreography. “Undefeated, uh huh / That’s why they call me undisputed, uh huh / I’m ranking up another season / I been about my stats, now would you look at that,” they chant on the hook.

Shortly after the release of the ‘Undefeated’ performance video, the band also announced new details for their upcoming sophomore mini-album earlier today (July 24). The record was first announced on July 8 via a cryptic visual teaser, however new details unveiled today revealed that the album will be out in its entirety on November 8.

“When a new presence emerges, it can stir feelings of both fear and curiosity. In embracing the new, people go through a psychological journey of experiencing ‘awe’,” a description on their official website reads. “XG’s second mini-album is designed to evoke this sense of awe, offering a unique experience that seamlessly integrates XG’s music into everyday life.”

In the lead-up to the new album, XG have previously announced the forthcoming release of pre-release single ‘Something Ain’t Right’ later this week on July 26 alongside its accompanying music video. However, other specifics such as the album title and tracklist have yet to be announced..

In other XG news, the group are currently in the midst of their first-ever world tour, called ‘The First Howl’. They have concluded their first handful of shows in Japan, Singapore and Taipei and are set to continue their Asian, European and North American legs for the rest of the year.

Premiere: Italy’s Kodaclips ‘Fall Apart’ in the most elegant manner with a glorious single ahead of album release.

We are very honoured to premiere the new track ‘Fall Apart’ from Italian group Kodaclips: a burning intense track that has a shoegaze haze and a powerful drive. Very much part of the Italogaze movement, Kodaclips have a history of producing the most mesmerising material, and the new single continues with their upwards trajectory.

The track precedes the band’s forthcoming album ‘Gone Is The Day’ and captures perfectly this band’s uber cool presence – the song has scything crystalline guitars with the distant observant vocals threading through the percussive beat and the shimmering muscular wall of sound.

An arching, aching chorus creates an anthemic blush – indelible melodies shine through the fuzz and distortion as the song deals with the end of a relationship, threaded with an air of melancholy that seeps into the lyrics:

Who grows apart
I gotta tell you and let it go
One inner child
Two angry souls
Are we ever ready to let go
What should we say about that now

It is really very enthralling stuff.

The accompanying video from Matilde Pretolesi is a montage of enigmatic shots – streetwise and ambulant scenes that coast along with the drive of the music.

‘Fall Apart’ is released on 26 July through Manchester label Sister 9 Recordings and will be available to download and stream via all the usual sources. It is on the new album ‘Gone Is The Day’ which is out on 6 September 2024 and you can pre-order it here from Friday, 26 July 2024 . The album was mixed and mastered by the brilliant James Aparicio (Throw Down Bones, The Cult of Dom Keller, Rev Rev Rev, Clustersun amongst others). Check out our review for ‘Not My Sound‘ from their previous album ‘Glances’.

The Last Dinner Party @ Hordern Pavilion, Sydney

Anticipation usually builds before any given concert worth your time and money. However, in the case of the British band The Last Dinner Party, this anticipation is slightly different.

Formed in 2021, the band’s rise to the top has been both swift and meteoric. Dropping their debut single, Nothing Matters, in April 2023, the band were quickly catapulted from London’s pub scene into dizzying spirals of worldwide fame. Earning sets at Glastonbury, Coachella and more, the band were soon compared to icons like Kate Bush and David Bowie

The band, consisting of lead vocalist Abigail Morris, vocalist and guitarist Lizzie Mayland, lead guitarist, mandolin and flute player Emily Roberts, keyboardist and vocalist Aurora Nishevci and bassist, and Sydney’s very own Georgia Davies, are something quite original. With an avant-garde pop sound and a distinctively baroque look, one can easily slot the five-piece onto a different shelf than most live acts today.

So, as I walked into the Hordern Pavilion, surrounded by corseted fans who looked like they were attending a medieval re-enactment, I was just hoping that this anticipation would pay off. I can say without an ounce of hyperbole that it most certainly did.

With a stage set in banners that looked like they were ripped from the set of Harry Potter and an operatic score that felt both cunning and charming, I could feel the ripples of excitement beginning to grow in the audience. The smiles were getting riper, phones were beginning to be pulled from pockets, and the time was nigh.

Upon a dim light and an audience roar, the band emerged like a coven of witches descending upon a cauldron. Dressed in costumes evocative of a gothic Marie Antoinette, the band jumped into the dramatically charming Burn Alive. With an almost 80’s synth sound, Morris’s voice bellowed the deliciously poetic, “There is candle wax melting in my veins/ So I keep myself stand in your flames/ Burn, burn me alive”.

Sounding exactly how they do on recording, I was immediately taken aback by the band’s stage presence. Parading around the stage like a modern-day Siouxsie Sioux caught in a tapestry, Morris appears to really know how to draw you in and not let you leave.

Next, the band jumped into the seductive yet sparse track Caesar On A TV Screen. Morris sings the song as if she were caught in a battle of love, and this is her cry. Screaming the lines, “And just for a second, I can be one of the greats,” the song showcases the band’s almost Shakespearean theatricality and how entertaining it can truly be.

“Good evening, Sydney,” Morris bellowed as she winked at the audience through a sip of red wine. She and the rest of the band all looked like they had a sexy little secret for the audience. Regardless of whether they did, it was an effective choice to keep everyone comfortably on edge.

Next, playing The Feminine Urge, a song about feminine rage, I began to note how vivid the band’s lyrics truly are. Containing scintillating imagery, the lines “I am a dark red liver stretched out on the rocks/ All the poison, I convert it, and I turn it to love” conjured a remarkably raw image.

“It’s so nice to be home”, Davies later said to the audience. “I grew up on the Northern Beaches. I know half the people here. I used to come to the Hordern [Pavillion] myself. I even saw Tame Impala here”.

Swept up in emotion, one could really feel Davies’ sincerity in how memorable her homecoming was. Plus, to make it even more special, Morris revealed a banner mid-song, which read, “Georgia’s Homecoming 24”.

“This is the weeping hour,” Morris later declared before the band jumped into the devastatingly gorgeous On Your Side. While the song starts sweetly, it is but a cunning disguise for the song’s tortured lyrics. “When it’s 4 a.m., and your heart is breaking/ I will hold your hand to stop them from shaking”. Brought to her knees by emotion, tears eventually began to flow from Morris’ eyes. “I was in such a bad place when I wrote that song. And I know a lot of people on stage say it, but thanks”, Morris sobbed to the audience in a touching, raw moment.

The show was, however, not all tears and theatrics. Morris later did a shoey out of her Edward Scissorhands-looking boot. “Shall we do the shoey song?” Davies asked the audience before Morris skulled the contents of her boot. Set to the noise of, “Here to Abigail, she’s true blue…” this was the Australian baptism of The Last Dinner Party.

The band later covered Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game and Sparks’ This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us. While the covers did not work as well as their originals, this could easily be forgiven, given that the band is still on their first album and figuring out their kinks. Each of their originals, however, felt significant and like they were adding something to the charmingly sinister brew the band was concocting.

After a brief encore, the band’s final song, Nothing Matters, whipped the audience into a frenzy. At times, the band appear like a coven of the sweetest witches you’ve ever laid eyes on, and then, in an instant, they switch into the most scrumptiously daring of rockstars.

If this is the last dinner party, I’m in and will bring the finest wine I have.

Halle Bailey Delivers Angelic Rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’ on Guitar

It’s no secret that Halle Bailey can sing anything flawlessly, and she proved it once again when she took to social media to put her spin on Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please.”

In the 45-second clip, the 24-year-old star is seen effortlessly belting the chorus while playing the guitar, adding her own vocal runs to some of the lyrics. “woke up with this song in my headdd i love itt,” she captioned the post.

Carpenter scored her first Hot 100 chart topping song with “Please Please Please,” which made its way to the top of the tally on the chart dated June 29, 2024. The pop star celebrated the news of the accomplishment on Instagram, posting a three-item carousel to her feed. The first photo is the graphic of the Hot 100, followed by a video of Carpenter performing the signature claps in “Please Please Please” with co-writer/producer Jack Antonoff and co-writer Amy Allen, plus engineer Laura Sisk off camera.

“MY FIRST #1 on the @billboard HOT 100!!!!!!!” reads Carpenter’s caption. “And espresso at #4.. I’m very immensely grateful so i will surely always remember this day for the rest of my life! @jackantonoff @amyallen i deeply love this song and i love you both!!!!! I love our pitchy claps!!!!! She shared a photo of his tiny hand on Instagram, writing, “Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son.”

Jimin’s ‘Muse’: Every Song Ranked

After BTS committed to releasing solo projects in the group’s “Chapter Two,” Jimin set the bar for creative ingenuity and commercial success with his Face EP from last spring. The brilliantly unconventional dark-pop lead single “Like Crazy” marked the first time a K-pop soloist hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the 164,000 equivalent album units Face sold in its first week, resulting in a No. 2 debut on the Billboard 200, created another set of new records for Korean artists.

Despite serving his mandatory Korean military service obligations at the moment, Jimin is still showing his willingness to expand and push himself with what he prepared with the release of his second solo record. A sharp contrast to the dark themes of his solo debut, Muse explores Jimin’s journey to find true inspiration to deliver an exploration of love through seven tracks.

Incorporating everything from R&B grooves and light hip-hop to Latin and Afrobeat flair, Muse flexes Jimin’s versatility as a genre-less artist. Meanwhile, the songwriting within the record feels intimate and introspective. With Jimin co-writing on six of the EP’s seven tracks, the opening song, “Rebirth (Intro),” sets the multifaceted theme of romance in searching for a lover as part of one’s self-improvement while the focus track “Who” explores the longing and confusion in love via Jimin’s first solo English single.

With “Who” and “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” being Muse’s singles, all of the EP’s full tracks could fulfill that duty for their ability to successfully represent new sides of Jimin. Here’s our ranking of the songs on the BTS vocalist’s latest solo album, Muse.

Mathame Announce NEO World Tour to Debut At The Brooklyn Mirage

Born from an odyssey the brothers (Matteo and Amedeo Giovanelli) embarked on late last year in Tokyo, Japan, NEO is more than just a statue; it is a bridge between the ancient and the modern. By combining the emotional intensity of electronic music with rituals inspired by ancient practices the duo explored on their journey, NEO offers a transformative experience that connects audiences to a deeper sense of mindfulness and collective harmony.

Now we see the Emo Tech DJ and producer duo Mathame unveil NEO World, a multi-stop, tour that will introduce their most groundbreaking concept to date, NEO, to audiences around the globe. Originally debuted during their residency of the same name at Ibiza’s beloved nightlife establishment Amnesia, NEO is an evolving art form that blends cutting-edge technology with the unifying power of music to deliver an experiential marvel in a category of its own. On Saturday, October 5, the duo will kick off the tour at The Brooklyn Mirage via a two-hour, 360-degree sonic experience, featuring the humanoid monument as the euphonic centerpiece at an impressive 9 meters tall, immersing attendees into their forward-thinking, cinematic artistic vision in a completely new way.

A revolutionary approach to live music experiences, NEO comes to life as an android cyborg in a meditative state, delivering an unexpected optical element that transcends traditional LED visual integrations. A physical manifestation of the duo’s connective ethos, NEO creates spaces for human interaction and emotional resonance as Mathame invites audiences to explore the interplay between sound and the senses.

Revealing itself through the absorption of lights, shadows and colors synchronized with an expertly curated soundscape, NEO appears to dance through presence and absence, expressing an array of human-like emotions throughout each set. Simultaneously, the duo engages and interacts with the atmosphere, responding to mood and reaction to create an experience that evokes catharsis and communion in equal measure. NEO is a symbol of unity and peace, of coexistence and tolerance, a symbol of a place where people stay together in euphoric moments between nature, technology and spirituality.

The announcement arrives hot on the heels of their most recent hit “I Will Find You,” a deeply personal release that re-imagines the iconic intro track from legendary Italian DJ and electronic pioneer, Franchino, as well as the duo’s electrifying AV performance during Tomorrowland Weekend One. Marking their final AV show, Mathame’s performance on the Freedom Stage signaled the first full-length AI generated feature film on a public venue.
Harnessing machine learning to read, interpret and produce video clips of all the tercets of Dante’s Divine Comedy as if they themselves were the protagonists of a journey through hell, purgatory and paradise, the duo’s performance offered an unprecedented testament their dynamic vision, resonating at the crossroads of cinematic and futuristic realms.
