Renowned luthier Rich Hoeg has announced that he is retiring from day-to-day guitar building. However, fans of his work can take heart in knowing that his legacy will continue via the formation of Hoeg Electric Instruments. This new company, which is under the purview of Andy Logan Productions, which will maintain the tradition of hand-crafting guitars in the Bay Area. Hoeg will supervise Zack Jones and Addam Stark of Rick Turner Guitars on the instruments.
Hoeg is known for helping to create Bob Weir’s Blue Lightning Bolt guitar along with the Hoeg Classic, which began via a commission from Weir. Hoeg first gained renown at Modulus Graphite, where he worked on projects for Weir, Jerry Garcia, Steve Miller, Phil Lesh, John Entwistle, Sammy Hagar and many others.
Hoeg says of the new company: “Andy Logan has been a longtime good friend of mine. We’ve been to a lot of shows together. I’ve seen how Andy treats other people and his generosity, so I can’t think of a better person to be involved with taking over Hoeg Guitars and keeping the spirit alive!”
