Last night, Gov’t Mule’s extended summer tour pulled into Lewiston, NY’s Artpark. JJ Grey & Mofro supplied support duties and, at the end of Gov’t Mule’s show, members of the Florida-based group returned to the stage for a collaborative moment.
After Mule ran through the original “Shake Our Way Out,” from the 2023 LP Peace…Like A River, Grey emerged to sing and play harmonica with the quartet on Van Morrison’s famed “Tupelo Honey.” Several of Grey’s bandmates circled back to the stage with the Mofro leader as well, including bassist Todd Smallie—a veteran of Derek Tucks Band—trumpeter Dennis Marion, saxophonist Darren Escar, keyboardist Eric Brigmond and background vocalists Katie Dutton and Linzy Lauren. Gov’t Mule then closed their set sans guests with “Mr. Man,” before returning to the stage for the lone encore of “Bring On The Music.”
Gov’t Mule will perform at Atlantic City, NJ’s The Showroom at the Tropicana this evening while Grey and Mofro will appear at Seaside Heights, NJ’s Seaside Heights Beach.
