Written by Presley Aaron, Ethan Escue (Chase Matthew, Hayden Coffman) and Mason Thornley (Josh Ross, Levi Hummon), the steamy track seamlessly blends Austin’s Southern twang with his love for hip-hop while the video, directed by West Webb, recounts a night out with a flame that keeps burning after closing time.
Williams will release his new single, “Quitter,” next Friday, June 21 and he’s currently on tour with festival appearances at Summerfest, Faster Horses and more coming up. For more information, visit austinwilliamsmusic. // Continue to the full article

The Herd Reunite For New Single ‘Soul Of My Soul’
The Herd | CREDIT: Elefant Traks
The Herd have reunited to share their first new music in 12 years: A single titled ‘Soul Of My Soul’. The track is the final ever release for Elefant Traks, the independent label founded by The Herd’s Kenny Sabir in the late 90s. It features Palestinian artists Sereen, Mo and Big Rigs, and lyrically deals with the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza by the Israeli military.
“The [United Nations have] just published a report detailing the ‘unprecedented scale’ of violations against children in Gaza by Israel, and yet we see little action being taken beyond lip service by the Australian government,” said Tim Levinson – AKA Urthboy – in a press statement. “The frustration at the normalisation of the most extreme state-based violence cannot be ignored.”
Levinson also calls out the Australian music industry for largely not platforming the issue publicly. “The silence has been deafening,” he said. “A sector that prides itself on being at the forefront of progressive movements, recognising the value of representation from different cultures, is strangely silent on a matter that the entire world is grappling with.
“Artistic expression in Australia is under threat, with many anti-genocide creatives experiencing or being threatened with loss of funding and platforms. The absence of Arab voices, let alone Palestinians, in boardrooms and leadership positions may have more than a small part to play in this.”

Levinson notes the song politically parallels the group’s 2003 single ‘77%’, which referenced a national survey taken which claimed that percentage of Australians agreed with then-Prime Minister John Howard’s 2001 decision to refuse entry of an MV Tampa carrying over 400 refugees into Australia.
“[That song was written] about the shocking racism projected at refugees,” said Levinson. “After all this time the sentiment is stronger than ever, and The Herd are proud to stand by their values and commitment to justice.”
The Herd’s last release was the 2012 EP Better Alive, which served as a companion piece to their 2011 studio album Future Shade. Since then, the group have only performed sporadically – with members such as Urthboy and Jane Tyrrell releasing solo albums. They reunited for shows in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Most recently, The Herd performed as part of Elefant Traks’ finale concerts, which included a show at the Sydney Opera House as part of this year’s Vivid Live. They were joined by the likes of Horrorshow, Hermitude, L-Fresh the Lion, The Last Kinection and Joelistics.

Icelandic Post-Punk Band GROA Share New Single ‘Cranberry’
Icelandic post-punk group GRÓA has returned with their new single “Cranberry” via the US label, FOUND. The track showcases the band’s distinctly distorted sound, blending a variety of vocal styles – from synchronized whispers and melodic chants to full-throated shouts – interwoven across snappy drums and buzzing guitars.
“The song is like a bull having smoke from its nose and ears,” the band says. “Instrumentally coming from a heavy dimension, like the instruments are angry or depressed, stuck in their own mess. It still has this tender and caring melody that Hrabba sings. You could say that it’s a love/care song.”
The ReykjavÃk-bred band, consisting of sisters KarólÃna Einars MarÃudóttir, aka Karó (lead vocals, guitar, keys) and Hrafnhildur Einars MarÃudóttir, aka Hrabba (drums, vocals), as well as FrÃða Björg Pétursdóttir (bass, vocals), fearlessly blend aspects of post-punk, noise-rock, and art-pop into a dynamic sonic hash with boundless intention. // Continue to the full article
Alicia Keys and Jay-Z to Perform ‘Empire State of Mind’ on 2024 Tony Awards
It was too perfect an opportunity to pass up: Alicia Keys and Jay-Z will perform “Empire State of Mind” during the 77th Annual Tony Awards on Sunday, June 16. The show is set to air live on both coasts from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City (8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/5:00-8:00 p.m. live PT) on CBS, and to stream on Paramount+ in the U.S.
“Empire State of Mind” is featured in Hell’s Kitchen, the musical based on Keys’ early life and music which is nominated for 13 Tony Awards. That put it in a tie with the play Stereophonic as this year’s most-nominated production.
“Empire State of Mind” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks in 2009 and received three Grammy nominations the following year, winning two — best rap song and best rap/sung collaboration. It was also nominated for record of the year.
Keys and Jay-Z first performed the song together on Sept. 13, 2009, when they closed that year’s MTV Video Music Awards, held at Radio City Music Hall. They have performed it live together in New York on several other occasions — at Yankee Stadium before Game 2 of the 2009 World Series in October 2009; at Madison Square Garden in March 2010 during one of Keys’ Freedom Tours concerts; and in Times Square in October 2016 during Keys’ Here in Times Square concert special, televised on BET.
They have also performed it in other locations — in Berlin in November 2009 at the MTV Europe Music Awards; in Los Angeles later that same month at the American Music Awards; and in London in February 2010 at the BRIT Awards.
The Tony Awards are produced in collaboration with Tony Award Productions and White Cherry Entertainment. Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss are showrunners and executive producers for White Cherry Entertainment, and Weiss will serve as director. Jack Sussman is also an executive producer. Ariana DeBose is a producer.
