The String Cheese Incident have issued a new single, “Fête-Tama.” The drop arrives after the Colorado-bred act released another studio track, “Lightning Sky,” earlier this summer. “Fête-Tama” is described as “an instrumental, dance-floor-ready, electronic fusion of Afro-inspired percussion and heavy funk melodies, taking listeners on a 6-minute musical journey.” The ensemble first played the cut live at Houston, TX’s House of Blues on May 30.
“‘Fête-Tama’ was inspired by some of the world music I’ve been listening to recently,” keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth said in a statement. “I knew I wanted to have a dance-oriented song in the style of some of our other electronic fiddle tunes. I wrote the melody on keys and brought it to the band, and we flushed it out together. ‘Fête’ meaning ‘party’ or ‘festival’ in French, and ‘Tama’ referencing a type of African drum. I wanted to showcase Jason [Hann]’s percussion expertise. But in the end, it became a fun dance track that gets everyone grooving.”
SCI have been working on new music in their studio The Lab and have already debuted a handful of new tunes this year. Their Just Keep Spinning Tour picks up this weekend with a two-night run in Vail, CO’s Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.
