Warren Haynes Plays Jerry Garcia’s Wolf Guitar on Three Grateful Dead Tunes in Youngstown

Last night Gov’t Mule made their way to Youngstown Foundation Amp in Youngstown, OH. The band shared the bill and the stage with Joe Bonamassa as will occur over the next few nights as well.

The Sunday show took place on August 9, which marked the 31st anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s passing. This also concluded the commemoration of The Days Between, which begins on August 1, the date of Garcia’s birthday. Warren Haynes honored Garcia in Youngstown by performing three of his songs: “Bertha,” “Loser” and “Shakedown Street.” What’s more, Haynes played them on Garcia’s famed Wolf guitar.

The third of these tunes also featured Bonamassa’s backup singers Dannielle DeAndrea and Jade MacRae. Bonamassa himself then appeared and joined in on Jeff Beck’s “Freeway Jam.” Earlier in the set, the Mule performed Bruce Springsteen’s “Youngstown” for the first time, which was the second Springsteen tune the Mule interpreted over the recent days, following Friday’s take on “Atlantic City.”
